This Privacy Policy explains how Orator ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our services. This policy covers both the Orator iOS application ("the App") and the coaching platform at orator.coach ("the Website").

What We Collect

Website — Coaching Bookings

When you book a coaching session through the Website, we collect:

  • Email address and name — provided when you book
  • Session notes — optional notes you include with your booking
  • Booking details — date, time, and coach selected

No account is required to book a session on the Website.

App — Account Information

  • Email address — provided during registration or via Google Sign-In
  • Display name — provided during registration or imported from your Google account
  • Profile photo URL — imported from Google Sign-In if used
  • Language preference — English or Russian, selected by you

App — Audio & Voice Data

  • Audio recordings — captured through your device microphone during speech exercises
  • Speech transcriptions — generated from your recordings
  • Voice analysis metrics — pitch range, average pitch, pause frequency and duration, speaking pace, filler word counts

App — Usage & Progress Data

  • Session history — exercise type, duration, date, and analysis results
  • Progress metrics — XP earned, level, streak data, achievements unlocked
  • Course progress — lessons completed, current position within courses
  • Voice Passport — your cumulative voice profile based on analysis across sessions

App — Subscription Information

We receive your subscription status (active, expired, or in trial) via Apple's StoreKit framework. We do not collect payment card details, billing addresses, or financial information — all payments are handled by Apple through the App Store.

How We Use Your Data

Website

  • Process and confirm coaching session bookings
  • Connect you with your chosen coach
  • Send booking confirmations and reminders
  • Handle cancellations and refund requests
  • Respond to support inquiries

App

  • Speech analysis — real-time feedback on pitch, pauses, fillers, and speaking pace
  • AI coaching — personalized coaching feedback based on your recordings and transcriptions
  • Progress tracking — display your improvement over time, maintain streaks, and award achievements
  • Account management — authenticate you and sync your data across sessions
  • Service improvement — understand aggregate usage patterns (we do not use your audio recordings for this purpose)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Audio & Voice Data Processing

Understanding how your audio is processed is important. Here is exactly what happens when you record a practice session in the App:

On-Device Processing

Some analysis happens entirely on your device and is never sent to any server:

  • Filler word detection — uses Apple's Speech framework for real-time on-device speech recognition
  • Pitch analysis — processed locally using Apple's audio frameworks
  • Pause detection — analyzed locally from the audio signal

Cloud Processing

For certain exercises, your audio is sent to our secure backend server for additional analysis:

  • Transcription — audio is forwarded to OpenAI's Whisper API to generate an accurate text transcription
  • AI coaching feedback — the transcription (text only, not audio) is sent to OpenAI's GPT to generate personalized coaching suggestions

Audio recordings are uploaded to Firebase Storage and linked to your user account so you can review past sessions.

Third-Party Services

Stripe (Website only)

Coaching session payments on the Website are processed through Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or other payment card details. Stripe handles all payment data in compliance with PCI DSS standards. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Firebase (Google)

  • Firebase Auth — handles App account creation and sign-in
  • Cloud Firestore — stores user profiles, session history, achievements, voice passport data, and Website booking records
  • Firebase Storage — stores audio recording files from the App

OpenAI (App only)

  • Whisper API — receives audio recordings for transcription
  • GPT API — receives transcription text to generate coaching feedback

Data sent to OpenAI via their API is not used to train their models, per OpenAI's API data usage policy.

Apple (App only)

  • StoreKit — manages subscription purchases and payment processing
  • Speech framework — provides on-device speech recognition (no data sent to Apple)

Google Sign-In (App only)

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from your Google account. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Payment Processing

Website: Coaching session payments are processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your payment card details on our servers.

App: Subscription payments are managed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, process, or store any payment information from App users.

Data Retention & Deletion

Website: Booking data is retained for as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. You can request deletion at any time.

App: Account data, session history, and audio recordings are retained for as long as your account is active. You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at support@orator.coach. Upon account deletion, all personal data, session history, audio recordings, and voice passport data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

Data Security

  • All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
  • Data stored in Firebase is encrypted at rest.
  • Audio sent to OpenAI is transmitted over encrypted connections.
  • Firebase security rules restrict data access so that each user can only access their own data.
  • Authentication tokens are securely managed by Firebase Auth.

While we implement industry-standard security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Cookies (Website)

The Website uses only essential cookies required for basic functionality (such as maintaining session state during the booking process). We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party tracking cookies.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own:

  • Firebase services are hosted by Google in the United States and other regions.
  • OpenAI processes data in the United States.

By using our services, you consent to the transfer of your data to these locations. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place through the data processing agreements we have with these service providers.

Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@orator.coach and we will promptly delete it.

Your Rights Under GDPR (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure — request deletion of your personal data
  • Data portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to processing of your data in certain circumstances
  • Restriction — request restricted processing of your data

Our legal basis for processing your data is: (a) your consent (for audio recording and processing), (b) performance of our contract with you (providing the service), and (c) our legitimate interests (service improvement and security).

Your Rights Under CCPA (California Users)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know — request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected
  • Delete — request deletion of your personal information
  • Non-discrimination — exercise your privacy rights without receiving discriminatory treatment

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If we make material changes that affect how we handle your audio or voice data, we will notify you through the App. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
